Waterways

Chloe Vallance

Chloe Vallance makes studio-based colour pencil drawings on wood and paper by observing everyday practices and moments of contemplation. The definition of contemplation in Chloe’s artwork is ‘a long loving look.’ Often the figures in her artworks are seen to be looking into the middle distance, pausing or walking, each on their own journey.

Recently, Chloe has begun to draw her attention to waterways and inner landscapes of beauty. Listening deeply within movement practices – running, walking, and dancing – inspired Chloe to draw the Birrarung (Yarra River) flowing between Eltham and Warrandyte. Intimate in scale these drawings feel warm, quiet and calm.

Waterways remind Chloe of music, a place of connection, an enchanted forest, a river of inspiration. This exhibition of drawings and poetry touches upon the everyday magic and mystery of being moved by waterways.
