Welcome to the Warrandyte Pottery’s Limited Access Studio Program.

A shared creative space designed to support independent ceramic practice within a respectful and community-minded environment.

This agreement outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and conditions that ensure the studio remains safe, fair, and enjoyable for all members.

Limited Access Studio Membership Agreement

Studio Insurance & Liability
Warrandyte Pottery holds comprehensive insurance covering theft, major structural damage, fire, and non-environmental flooding. This insurance does not cover individual member work, personal property, or any liabilities arising from a member’s use of the studio.

By entering into this agreement, members acknowledge and accept full responsibility for their own safety, property, and actions while using the studio. Members agree not to pursue Warrandyte Pottery for any loss, damage, injury, or incident that may occur during their time in the studio, except where required by law.

Breakage Policy
Warrandyte Pottery is not liable for any breakage, damage, or loss of work that occurs during making, drying, firing, glazing, or storage.

Studio Ethos & Expectations
Warrandyte Pottery is committed to maintaining a fair, respectful, and inclusive creative environment. Members are expected to contribute to a positive shared studio culture.

This membership is not a substitute for formal instruction. Members are encouraged to attend classes to further develop their skills.

Studio Availability
The studio may occasionally be unavailable due to private events or maintenance. A minimum of one (1) weeks’ notice will be provided where possible. In cases of emergency repairs or unforeseen circumstances, notice will be given as soon as practicable.

Member Studio Access Times
Members may attend a maximum of two (2) sessions per week:

  • Tuesday: 1:30pm – 8:30pm

  • Friday: 10:00am – 4:00pm

  • Sunday: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Access is shared with other members and students.

Membership Conditions

  • Membership is strictly for one individual and is non-transferable.

  • Membership does not permit running classes, workshops, or any paid teaching activity.

  • Members must follow all studio guidelines and staff directions at all times.

Member Responsibilities

  • Bring your own clay (must be suitable for cone 9/10 firing).

  • No private storage is provided.

  • Members are responsible for their own work at all stages.

  • Maintain your own reclaim.

Studio Conduct & Safety

  • Follow all OHS (Occupational Health & Safety) guidelines.

  • Use wet methods for sanding and cleaning to minimise dust.

  • Report hazards, damages, or unsafe conditions immediately.

  • Respect shared space, equipment, and other members.

Cleaning & Studio Care

General Cleaning (after every session)

  • Begin cleaning with enough time to leave by session end.

  • Wet wipe all tables and surfaces.

  • Clean wheels, including splash pans and surrounding walls.

  • Wipe sinks, benches, and tools; do not leave items in sink areas.

  • Wet mop floors.

Wheels

  • Clean wheel heads, splash pans, and underneath wheel heads.

  • Clean surrounding floor area.

  • Turn off wheels after use.

  • Return cleaned batts and boards to storage.

Glazing

  • Only approved studio glazes and underglazes may be used.

  • Studio may prohibit use of problematic materials at its discretion.

  • Studio glaze usage fees:

    • $5 small/medium items

    • $10 large items

    • $15 extra large items

  • Spraying glaze must be done outside using appropriate equipment (not provided).

  • Maximum double-dip: top 1/3 only.

  • Maintain a minimum 7mm glaze-free base.

  • Ensure bases are clean before firing.

  • Clean all tools and glaze areas after use.

  • Notify staff if glaze levels are low.

  • External glazes require use of cookies for each piece.

Kiln Use

  • Only staff may load, unload, and operate kilns.

  • Firing cost: $9 per kg.

  • Full kiln hire available:

    • Large kiln: $250

    • Small kiln: $175

Clay & Work Management

  • Only cone 9/10 clay is permitted.

  • Only work made by members may be fired.

  • Remove work from batts promptly; staff may relocate work if needed.

Closing Procedures

Each member must ensure:

  • All taps are turned off.

  • Wheels are turned off.

  • Equipment is cleaned and returned.

  • Glazes are sealed.

  • Floors are mopped and mop stored correctly.

  • Studio is vacated on time.

Payments & Deposit

  • Membership fee: $175 per month (auto-debited monthly).

  • A $175 deposit is required at the start of membership.

The deposit may be used to cover:

  • Equipment damage

  • Property damage

  • Outstanding fees

The deposit will be returned at the end of membership, provided:

  • No damages have occurred

  • All payments are up to date

Termination

Warrandyte Pottery reserves the right to terminate a membership at any time if:

  • Studio rules are breached

  • Unsafe or inappropriate behaviour occurs

  • Payments are not maintained

Members may cancel their membership with written notice one (1) months notice.
